Singapore Central Region Central Area

Singapore is divided into 55 planning areas grouped into 5 regions. Central Region has 22 planning areas. 11 planning areas are within the Central Area considered the city centre of Singapore.

Downtown Core is one of the planning areas within Central Area in Central Region. It is the city of Singapore.

Fullertion Hotel was formerly an office building built in 1919 to commemorate 100 years of British colonial rule in Singapore. The Cavenagh Bridge was completed in 1870 to commemorate Singapore's status as a Crown Colony of the Straits Settlement. It is the third bridge to be built in Singapore.

Both are Singapore's National Monunment.

Dalhousie Obelisk

The Dalhousie Obelisk was built in 1850 by local merchants and traders to commemorate Governor-General of India, Marquis of Dalhousie's visit to Singapore from 1848 to 1856. It was moved to this present site in 1909.

Former City Hall

The City Hall was built in 1929. Several historic event took place in the building. On 12 September 1945, during the WWII Japanese surrender ceremony, General Itagaki surrendered Japanese forces in Southeast Asia to Lord Mountbatten. Singapore's then Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew declared self-governance here on 31 Auguest in 1959 and read the Malaysia Proclamation on 31 August 1963 to join the Federation of Malaysia, ending the British colonial rule of Singapore since 1819.This was also the location where Singapore's national anthem was first played and the national flag was first displayed. The The first National Day Parade was also held here in 1966.

Padang is an public open space designated by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. There are landmarks and buildings around the Padang.

Old Parliament House

This colonial goverment building was built in 1827. It was used as Singapore government's parliament house from independance in 1965 till 1999. The bronze elephant statue was a gift from King Rama V of Thailand during his visit in 1871.

Esplanade Park Memorials Tan Kim Seng Fountain

The fountain was built to commemorate Mr Tan Kim Seng who donated money in 1857 to provide Singapore town with water supply. The fountain was erected in 1882 and moved to current site in 1925.
